The Festival de Jerez, which runs from 24 February to 10 March 2012, is a celebration of music and dance featuring some of the biggest names in flamenco. Most of the action centres on the Teatro Villamarta, but there will also be performances at some of the city’s more intimate venues. As well as the shows, the festival also has dance workshops, courses and exhibitions.
Horse Racing at the Hipodromo Costa del Sol
The winter/spring horse racing season is now under way at the Hipodromo Costa del Sol in Mijas. There are four more race meetings scheduled for between now and 13 April, including Mijas Cup Day on 4 March.
World’s ‘oldest’ cave paintings discovered in Nerja
Cave paintings recently discovered in Nerja on the Costa del Sol may be the oldest in the world, according to scientists. Initial findings suggest these rudimentary, charcoal images of seals could have been created by Neanderthals around 43,000 years ago, although there is still more research to be carried out.
Cadiz Carnival 2012
The Cadiz Carnival is one of Andalucia’s most exuberant annual events. From 16 – 26 February 2012 this ancient walled city will become the backdrop to a celebration of music, colour, laughter and fun.
Andalucia Open Golf Tournament 2012
The 2012 Andalucia Open will take place at the Aloha Golf Club near Marbella from 15 – 18 March. A host of top-class golfers are expected to compete for this year’s title, including defending champion Paul Lawrie. The tournament has a total prize fund of 1 million euros.
