Spanish MotoGP in Jerez


This year’s Spanish MotoGP takes place in Jerez on 29 April 2012, with the practice and qualifying on the 27 and 28 April. Motorcycling fans will be flocking to the Circuito de Jerez to watch the sport’s biggest names, including Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa and defending world champion Casey Stoner. The 2011 race ended in controversy after Rossi took out Stoner on lap 8 while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre.

Gruta de las Maravillas – Aracena Caves

The Gruta de las Maravillas (Cave of Marvels) is one of the most spectacular caves in Spain. Situated beneath Aracena’s castle, this vast subterranean space, with its weird and wonderful rock formations, provided the backdrop to some of the scenes in the movie Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The caves were formed by water eroding away the limestone rock over a period of several millennia.

Casa del Cine in Almeria

In the autumn of 1966, while filming How I Won the War, John Lennon spent six weeks at the Santa Isabel mansion on the outskirts of Almeria. During his stay at the house, the Beatle wrote and recorded an early demo of the classic Strawberry Fields Forever. Santa Isabel has now been converted into a museum, the Casa del Cine, which explores the history of movie-making within Almeria province.
