The Baroness Thyssen Museum in Malaga

Malaga’s newest art museum is due to open on March 24 2011. The Baroness Thyssen Museum will contain works by Spanish painters including Joaquin Sorolla, Julio Romero de Torres and Francisco Zurbaran. This will be Malaga’s third major art museum alongside the CAC and the Picasso Museum.

As well as the permanent collection, the Baroness Thyssen will also host a series of temporary exhibitions. The first of these, entitled de Picasso a Tapies, explores 20th century Spanish art through works by Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies and Pablo Picasso among others. A second exhibition, scheduled for the autumn, focuses on Valencia-born painter Joaquin Sorolla.

The new museum is housed in the restored Villalon Palace, which dates from the 16th century.

Opening Hours

The Baroness Thyssen Museum will be open from 10am to 8pm Tuesday to Friday, and between 10am and 9pm at weekends. It will be closed on Mondays.
